Biography
Kurtis is currently a bioengineering undergraduate student entering his 4th and final year at the University of California, Merced. He has joined Dr. Pan’s Research Group for summer 2019 to broaden his research experience as part of the Frontiers in Biomedical Imaging Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) connected with the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Here, his research is focused on using carbon dots for improved cancer diagnostics and treatment methods. After completing his undergraduate education, Kurtis intends on pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering. Kurtis hopes to continue using his research and academic experiences to develop improved medical technology. In his free time, Kurtis enjoys activities such as hiking, running and traveling to new places. He especially enjoys trying different cuisines that are new to him.
